Madonna vs. Me

September 13, 2011

“Hydrangea-gate” has been one of the weirder celebrity controversies in the past few years. What’s most bizarre is that instead of letting it pass, Madonna has thrown fuel on the fire by releasing the following satirical video:

I guess she really does loathe hydrangeas. Not to be out done, and to give a voice to the voiceless flowers which have become the innocent victims of Madonna’s ire, I have produced a similar satirical video:

It’s time someone stuck up for the hydrangeas! Please share this post with the flower-lover in your life.

Has It Really Been a Decade?

September 11, 2011

Was I really only 26 years old? How can the memories be so vivid? I can’t remember things I agreed to in a sales meeting last week but I remember September 11th, 2001 like it was yesterday.

I remember going on the radio and telling everyone to find a television (something I would be fired for on any other day.) But the images of what was happening were too powerful to describe.

I remember getting a phone call from a college friend. His plane had been forced to land in Raleigh, NC. He called looking for a place to stay. I felt horrible telling him that I no longer lived there.

I remember my bosses standing in the studio arguing about something. “You know the world will never be the same, right?” One said to the other. That ended the argument.

A few years ago on the Anniversary of September 11th I broadcast the following message. As I listen to it now I realize that I feel the exact same way. So I won’t try to say the same thing using different words, you can listen to the original broadcast below:

September 11th Monologue: LISTEN NOW

As I sit and watch the 9/11 memorial being unveiled and the families and friends of the dead searching for the names of their loved ones, I realize I remember everything about 9/11/01 except one thing: How I felt before it happened.

I don’t remember what it was like to live in a place where bad people didn’t fly planes into buildings.

I don’t remember what it was like to think of the World Trade Center as a place where thousands of people worked, not a place where thousands of people died.

I don’t remember what the first 26 years of my life felt like. My boss was right. The world will never be the same.
