March was a record-breaking month for markkaye.com. I received over 11,000 unique visits and over 250,000 hits! (Special thanks to American Idol’s Blake Lewis for spewing hate on Sanjaya. I’m sure that helped!)
I track my info through a program called Google Analytics, and one of the most interesting things on the stats page is the world map that shows you exactly where your visitors are coming from. I’m getting visitors from all over the world! In March alone I received visits from web surfers in the following countries:

Ireland
Italy
Japan
Mexico

…and of course, the good ol’ U S of A!
Isn’t that fascinating? So, here is my online goal for April:
I want at least one visitor from every country in the world!
There are 195 countries total (counting Taiwan and Tibet.) I already have 32 under my belt. That leaves only 165 to go. But, if I am going to do this by April 30th then I need your help.
If you know anybody who lives outside the US send them an email and tell them to visit www.markkaye.com/world.
Also, instruct them to pass the link around to all of their friends in different countries. I really think if we work together we can get this done pretty quickly!

This morning we were playing a song that Elliot Spitzer’s Hooker-friend recorded and posted on her myspace page. (She has either canceled her account or the page was removed by myspace because it isn’t there anymore. It’s a shame too because the last time I checked she had over 5,000,000 views. I’m sure at least one of them was a record producer.) The song is called What We Want and you can hear it at www.aimeestreet.com.
Anyhoo, we played the song for a few minutes. It was very clubby. Very poppy. Very “Pussycat Doll-ish.” And despite the simple lyrics I found it quite catchy. That does not bode well for her future singer career because, when it comes to picking “hit” music, I suck!
Here is a list of songs that I remember hearing for the first time and thinking “This song blows!” Or, “This will never be a hit.” Or, “We aren’t actually going to play this on the radio are we?”
1. Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin (The horns gave me a headache.)
2. Believe by Cher (I thought it was a man at first. No way did I think it would be a hit. Turns out it was the most played song of 1998. Oops.)
3. Get Your Freak On by Missy Elliot (This one just annoyed me.)
4. Drop It Like It’s Hot by Snoop Doggy Dogg (It’s the first time a rap star has successfully used a slide whistle in a song about pimps and hos and guns and stuff.)
5. My Name Is by Eminen (A white rapper? Nobody will take him seriously.)
So as you can see, I no longer try to pick the next hit because, it just isn’t my thing. I leave that to the program directors and music directors of the world. (If only they would show me the same courtesy.)
Was there ever I song that you thought sucked but the world fell in love with? Come on, fess up! What “Hit” did you just not get?

I haven’t been posting as much as I have wanted to lately because, well, my wife and I had our baby a week ago, and it’s been a little hectic around the home front. Also, tons of you have been bugging me for pictures and video of our new little bundle of joy. Last night I finally got the chance to sit down and download my pics and put together the following short film. Enjoy!
